Scholarship Information

The information security world needs your help.  It needs committed, ethical and educated professionals and practitioners to help safeguard human, data and financial assets. Education is expensive though, so the GT Chapter of the ISSA is excited to invite you to apply for a scholarship.  

The process is relatively easy, but you’ll need to be thorough as incomplete applications cannot be considered.

  1. Read the general requirements (below)
  2. Download and complete the application
  3. Have a reference write a letter on your behalf
  4. Order your unofficial school transcripts
  5. Submit all of the materials via email before the August 30, 2019 deadline.

General Requirements

To be eligible for the 2019 GT ISSA Chapter scholarship a student must be pursuing a career in computer science with a focus on information security or privacy and must enrolled in an accredited program.  Open to undergraduates or high school students, applicants must fulfill the eligibility requirements as established by the GT Chapter Scholarship Committee, to be considered.

Final selections are determined by the GT Chapter Scholarship Committee who will review and evaluate all materials submitted.

  • Checks for approved grant or scholarship recipients are made payable to the educational institution the recipient will attend.
  • Recipient will demonstrate an interest in Information Security, but need not be an ISSA member.
  • Recipient must be enrolled in an Information Security or Privacy program at an accredited college or university.
  • Applicant must reside in one of the following counties at the time of the application – Grand Traverse, Antrim, Leelanau, Kalkaska, Emmet, Charlevoix, Benzie, or Wexford.

Scholarship Eligibility Criteria is as Follows:

  • Community service and extracurricular activities
  • Security-related work experience and/or security coursework
  • Have a high school or undergraduate GPA of 2.5 , averaged over the period of attendance at the current institution
  • Be a full-time undergraduate student or in high school and enrolled in information security program to one of the supported schools
  • Intending to pursue a career in the field of information security
  • Submit a one-page letter describing applicant’s background, chosen academic program, interests and goals in the information security field
  • Each scholarship applicant must submit a complete application (download here) including a short biography, at least one letter of recommendation, and unofficial transcripts of the current institution attended.  At least one letter of recommendation must be from a current or former instructor/faculty, cybersecurity employer or cybersecurity association member.
  • Final candidates may be asked to participate in a thirty-minute telephone interview with a Scholarship Committee member.
  • Awardee agrees to have their name and image posted on GT.ISSA.Org, ISSA.org and/or social media sites.
